Weekending {wedding dress shopping}

This was THE weekend. My Mother and future Mother in law both came to Atlanta to help me find THE dress. While I and visited one store with a few friends to start the dress shopping process, this was my visit official visit.

I made appointments at 3 stores and ended up returning to one of the stores for a second visit.

Let me tell you ladies.... wedding dress shopping is not all it is cracked up to be.

Maybe I watched one too many episodes of "Say Yes to the Dress," or maybe I am just silly. I really thought I would put a dress on and "know" it was my dress. I didn't expect to cry or yell or anything like that, but I thought I would know when I found my dress.

But I didn't. Instead, I found tons of pretty dresses. I thought I had narrowed it down to two, found another dress and narrowed it down to two again. And nothing. I still didn't know which one was "the one."

I tried the whole "jack 'em up" thing with the veil and jewelry and the whole nine yards, and it didn't complete my decision. Finally, it was the end of the weekend and I had to be done. We were sitting at the bridal salon and my mom's flight was literally leaving in 90 minutes, so we had to be down for now.

The weekend wasn't a wash, but it wasn't what I expect. There were tears. Believe me, there were tears. I am not sure what comes next. Maybe I go by myself to the store? Maybe I put those two dresses back on with a friend? I don't know.

AR met us for an ice cream break...

...at Jeni's

I needed two flavors: brown-butter-almond, and dark chocolate

What was it like when you went shopping for your wedding dress? How many visits did it take you?

  1. Don't stress! I didn't have a "moment" and I'm still nervous that when I get my dress, I'm going to think I picked the wrong one. There is so much pressure on finding a great dress and loving it and having a "moment"..I was very lucky in the fact that I found one at the first store I went to, but it was also because I knew NOT finding one that day would be an issue. In the end, pick what you are comfortable in. The people who see you on your wedding day won't have seen you in 25 different gowns..just that one - so they will think it is perfect for you as long as you are confident and glowing and happy in it. I also found that it is much easier to pick a dress if you don't look at catalogs and designers online. Something you look at on a model will look very different in person - and on you - and it just lead to let-downs for me. You will find one and it will be great! Don't stress!

  2. I ended up finding two of "the dress", but I ended up going with "the one" from an amazing boutique that donates all of their proceeds to the families of cancer patients!

  3. You'll know when you find your dress!! Keep looking :) Sometimes things with the wedding process weren't what I thought they would be and I had to let go of that and live in the current moment! Try on as many as needed!! Glad I found your blog!

    1. You think I will know when it is the one? I am glad to know your wedding planning process was a little different too.... it sure is a process, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by, can't wait to read your blog :)

  4. Ohhhhh girl! I'm with you! I HATED wedding dress shopping. Hated it. When I found my dress, it was so passive. Like, "Uh, yeah I see myself wearing this. Alright." But then I tried on more and I just wanted to put that one back on. I thought about some of the other ones, but I went with my gut and on my wedding day, I was glad I did. :) Feel free to e-mail if you need more confidence in this but don't put too much pressure on yourself. It's not always a "Say Yes to the Dress" episode and that's okay! xoxox
